How to Apply: Organizations

Important Program Update:

Due to the current economic climate, the Everett Internship Program is being suspended indefinitely.

Over the past 18 years, the Everett Program has introduced 3,000 students to the challenges and opportunities that come with a career in public service.  These students have inspired creativity and furthered missions at over 65 leading non-profit organizations.

It is with a heavy heart that the Everett Family brings this successful program to a close. We wish you the best of luck in the pursuit of your organization's important mission.

Current Organizations: Your grant will be automatically renewed for next year unless any issues with your iinterns or your communication with the National Coordinator occured over the summer. If you are interested in increasing your grant to include more interns, please write and submit a proposal summarizing your current intern positions and describing the new intern position(s) to the National Coordinator by September 30, 2008.

Dear Interested Nonprofit Organization:
Thank you for your interest in the Everett Public Service Internship Program. Established in 1989 by Henry and Edith Everett, the Program encourages undergraduate and graduate students to be involved in public service and provides the public interest community with dedicated, energetic interns.

In the summer of 2008, 200 Everett Interns worked at 65 organizations dedicated to making the world a better place for everyone. In 2009, each Everett Intern will receive a stipend of $280 per week for ten weeks.

To apply to the Everett Program for the summer of 2009, your organization needs to meet the following requirements:

  • A mission dedicated to improving the world.
  • Minimum annual budget of $600,000.
  • Minimum full-time executive staff of six.
  • Location in either New York City or Washington, DC.
  • Desk space, substantive work and successful supervision for two Interns.

Please send a grant proposal (no more than two pages) written on your organization's letterhead to:
Samantha Saarion
The Everett Public Service Internship Program,
c/o Co-op America
1612 K Street NW, Suite 600
Washington, DC 20006.

Your proposal should address the following points:

  • Your organization's mission statement and brief history.
  • The type of substantive work you expect your interns to perform. Although development and fundraising work is a crucial part of every non-profit, we highly discourage internships in the development/fundraising area.
  • Any other relevant information.
  • Name and contact information for your executive director along with the name, phone number, and email address of the person with whom the National Coordinator should communicate about the status of the application.
  • Also, please include a copy of your latest annual report.

We need to receive your application by August 31 , 2008 in order to consider your organization for the 2009 season.

For more information, please review our "Guidelines for Intern Coordinators." Please explore this Web site for additional information. If you need more information please email me at everettinternships@coopamerica.org.

Sincerely,

Samantha Saarion
National Coordinator
